Always summer, never warm.
This is the mantra painted in the Coast Guard's
Polar Sea Icebreaker. While enjoying warm summers up north I've chosen a second chilly summer in McMurdo Station, Antarctica.

an introduction

In a few days I will be on a plane, set out for another Antarctic summer at McMurdo Station. For those of you who may have missed the preparation this summer, feel free to peruse my summer tour here.

These last days will be chalk-full of follow-up phone calls to cancel or postpone services, quick trips to the post office and various stores for last-minute goods, and a few goodbyes to the people I spent time with this summer.

Right now I am actually enjoying things like driving my car in traffic, running in the rain, washing dishes, and, of course, sleeping in my own room; all things I won't be able to do in two week's time.
