Always summer, never warm.
This is the mantra painted in the Coast Guard's
Polar Sea Icebreaker. While enjoying warm summers up north I've chosen a second chilly summer in McMurdo Station, Antarctica.

arrival boxes

Upon my arrival in McMurdo, I had a few boxes waiting for me. They were boxes I had left in Antarctica in case I came back. And, I'm back.

Part of me wishes I would have inventoried the items in these boxes. I couldn't remember what I had left down here. An illustration: I admittedly wear very little deodorant when I'm here (it doesn't get real warm most of the time anyway), so I sent myself one extra stick, only to find two full sticks in my box.

The other part of me is really glad I had such exciting gifts to open from myself. I found my Keen snow boots, my afghan from Debbie, my soft blanket from Will, my stuffed Penguin from Jen, lotion, soaps, Christmas lights, and extra clothes.

I am mostly unpacked. I am still waiting on all the boxes I mailed myself. We received a lot of mail today on the plane, so maybe I'll have some more personal surprises!
