Always summer, never warm.
This is the mantra painted in the Coast Guard's
Polar Sea Icebreaker. While enjoying warm summers up north I've chosen a second chilly summer in McMurdo Station, Antarctica.

i am blessed

Jean had a birthday today and she said, "I am so blessed...we all are so blessed." And, yes, we are. We are a community in one of the most awesome places on earth and we have friends; we have community and we have a place here. Some say we are the luckiest, I agree with Jean; we are "awesomely" blessed!

I don't often post a picture-dominated blog, but we had some gorgeous skies yesterday between a week of stormy days and no visibility. We have had our last official sunset, but that doesn't mean the sun keeps from occasionally hiding behind the mountains or Ob Hill. It makes being on nights completely worth it right now! The alpenglow was amazing; blazing pinks and oranges off of everything in the sun's path, the mountains looked extreme; the colors of Antarctica contrasted perfectly, and Mount Discovery proved to be a beautiful silhouette yet, once again, before the sun rises too high in the sky.
