Always summer, never warm.
This is the mantra painted in the Coast Guard's
Polar Sea Icebreaker. While enjoying warm summers up north I've chosen a second chilly summer in McMurdo Station, Antarctica.

on my way

This evening I sit in a very south Denver suburb. Raytheon appears to have upgraded my hotel from last year, but it seems like we drove half way across the state to reach this lovely establishment!

In any case, my flights out of Western Washington were what I hoped for; a cloudy, but beautiful view of the San Juan Islands, the Olympic Peninsula, and, when the plane turned, a stunning view of Mount Rainier, Mount Saint Helens and Mount Adams!

My flight from Seattle to Denver was nice as well; complete with a dinner offer from one of the Alaska Airlines pilots (and an embarrassing announcement from the cockpit in regards to my Antarctic destination). Alas, I am headed out for dinner with my good friend, Jen, this evening.
